Procedure (43-52 minutes)
-As a lead-in stage show the picture of your favorite actor "Al Pacino" and ask the students the reason of showing it and tell them he is your favorite actor and "God Father" in which he starred is your favorite movie. -Ask the students to talk about their favorite actor/actresses and movies in pairs. -After that, get feedback asking their partners' answers to each student.
-Pre-teach some words related to the listening activity. -Give the students hand-outs involving a matching task through which students are going to match the pictures with the words below. -Get them to work in groups and monitor them during the activity. -Get the students to compare their answers with the other groups'. - Give feedback focusing on the words students have difficulties, elicit the meaning and provide CCQs if needed.
-Get the students to look at the photos and ask them to which films stars they know. -Get them work in pairs and get feedback from the pairs. -Later, get the students to do vocabulary activity using the new words they will have learned. -Instruct the students to look at the photos again and answer the questions.: -1) Which of the film stars has got: a) short grey hair : b) long blonde hair: c) dark curly hair: d) a beard and a moustache: e) brown eyes: 2) Which of the film starts is: a) Black: b) wearing make-up: c) wearing earrings: - Let them work in pairs. -Get WC feedback. -After vocabulary task, get them to listen to a man describing two of the film stars and write two stars he is talking about.(Listening for gist) -Let them check in pairs and provide feedback. -Later, get them to listen to it again (listening for detail) and write the questions using prompts. -Let them check in pairs and provide feedback.
-Get the students to listen to the first part of a radio programme and ask them if it is about fashion or beauty.(Listening for gist) -Let them check with their partners and provide feedback. -Get the students to listen to it again and underline the words they hear on the handout given. (listening for specific information). -Let them check with their partners and provide feedback.
-Get the students to listen to the second part of the radio programme and write which films stars people like. (Listening for gist) -Let them check with their partners and provide feedback. -Get Ss to listen to it again and complete the chart on the handout given. -Let them check with their partners and give answer key.
-As a freer activity give the Ss flashcards with Turkish famous people on them. -Instruct the students to work in pairs and describe the people on the cards to their partners and the partners are going to guess which celebrity his/her pair is talking about. -After they finish, let them change their pairs and carry out the same process with her/him too.
