This lesson is designed to provide writing practice for upper intermediate students. The lesson will focus on how to write a persuasive email.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Google Docs - Show textbook examples of campaign text - 2 min chat answers Google Slides - Contextualize the lesson by mentioning these points • What is persuasive writing - It is opinion writing - what you think, feel or believe about something • To persuade means to convince someone • Why do we use it? To convince someone to believe what you believe - To convince someone to take action (to do something) - Changing someones mind about something • Persuasive writing can be used to convince anybody • An effective way to change peoples minds

Sample Analysis - (10 minutes) • To provide a model of the Layout of an email and the persuasive language needed to make an impact

Writing (20 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language by having a writing task that demonstrates how to write a persuasive email

Google Forms - TP7 2 Writing Task - Composing persuasive emails - Peer practice and composition Part 1 - Topic/Subject: English Language Learning - 10 min Have students write their own persuasive email using the 5 elements Part 2 - Share and Read your partner's email. - 10 min Can you suggest any ideas or language which would make it more effective? Have students write their own persuasive email using the 5 elements - All emails must contain: Subject • Introduction of the topic • Introduction of your argument • Consequences of not taking action • Request for action • Closing Give each element its own paragraph or sentence Part 2 - Share and Read your partner's email. - 10 min Can you suggest any ideas or language which would make it more effective?

Feedback and Error Correction (10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language with regards to writing a persuasive email
