Description

In this lesson, the students will learn the use of too, too much, too many, enough, such and so in the context of everyday life. They will first be exposed to the target language in the lead-in via a picture. They will do a controlled practice so the teacher can understand how much they know of the subject. They will then do a controlled practice to understand the formulation of the TL. They will then do another controlled practice for the second part of the TL.There will be a presentation on the TL. There will be another controlled practice for further understanding of the TL. The lesson will end with a freer practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of "too, too much, too many, enough, so and such" in the context of everyday life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide writing practice using the target language with a focus on accuracy

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To expose the SS to the target language

- T shows SS a picture of a family with 14 kids and asks questions to elicit answers to a gap filling - SS answer T's questions to fill the gaps.

Controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • To invoke SS' prior knowledge of the target language

- T asks SS to complete the sentences with TL, selecting the appropriate item. - SS complete the sentences - T shows the AK for SS to check their answers

Controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • To clarify a certain grammatical aspect of the TL

- T asks SS to say which target item is used before/after nouns/adjectives - SS answers T's questions

Controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • To raise SS' awareness about the distinction between so and such

- T asks SS to complete the sentences with so or such - SS complete the SS

Presentation (6-8 minutes) • To provide SS a presentation of too/enough, so/such

- T explains the TL and elicits examples from SS - SS give examples using the TL

Presentation (4-5 minutes) • To comprehend the difference in the usage of so/such

- T explains so/such and gives examples - T elicits more examples from SS - SS give examples

Controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • To check SS' understanding of the target language

- T asks SS to find the mistakes in the sentences in pairwork - SS work in pairs and find the mistakes in the sentences - SS share their answers with the class

Freer practice (4-5 minutes) • To practice writing using the TL with the aim of accuracy

- T asks SS to write four sentences about their everyday life using the TL, including true or false statements - SS write four sentences each

Follow-up (6-7 minutes) • To have SS practice speaking as they compare their answers

- T puts SS in pairs/groups and asks them to read their sentences and their partners to guess which sentence is true and which is false - SS work in groups, read their sentences, their partners/group mates guess whether they are true or false
