Procedure (41-43 minutes)
Students look at the pictures where they can see Dubai, Rio de Janeiro and Alberta, Canada. All these places will be mentioned in the following exercises and these photos work as a great context to introduce expressions related to weather. Students respond to the question: What's the weather like here?
Students do a listening for gist exercise where they get exposed to the context and the expressions about the weather they are going to be using in the following exercises. In this exercise they have to match the suggested information to the names of the people. They do it individually, and then check in pairs in breakout rooms. OCFB
To clarify the meaning, students do a matching exercise together where they have to match the functional expressions to the pictures. They also have to match the expressions to their meaning first in the chat, then compare together. To clarify the form the emphasis on the typical for English structure SUBJECT + VERB is made, in particular on not forgetting to use the subject. To clarify pronunciation students get to drill these expressions making emphasis on two challenging for pronunciation sounds: /ð/ and /ʌ/.
Students do fill in the gaps exercise on Google Forms in pairs in their breakout rooms where they are exposed to the expressions presented previously. OCFB ICQ: How much time do you have for this exercise?- 5 minutes.
Students discuss the following questions in pairs in their breakout rooms. What season do you love? What is your favorite activity for this season? In the questions they can see the functional expressions related to the weather, so when discussing they are supposed to be using them. As a class students share their answers. ICQ: How much time do you have for this exercise? - 4 minutes. DEC
