Description

In this lesson Ss will listen to a phone conversation between Ellie and Mike about going to a wedding. T will go over a few blocking words.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about An Invitation in the context of A phone conversation

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of Wow, replied, detail, book in the context of A phone call between an Aunt and her Nephew about coming for a wedding

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will say "hi' to Ss and then ask them if they have ever received an invitation to any kind of event? T will ask CCQ: What are thing people get invitations for/to? Weddings, Birthday parties, etc. Then T will tell Ss they are going to get in pairs and share about something they have received and invitation to. Ss in pairs and talk about something they have been invited to. Back and share with class.

Vocabulary (6-8 minutes) • To go over blocking vocabulary

T will show slides of four vocabulary words and have a S read the definition then ask the Ss pick out of two pictures which one goes with the word: replied-to answer, detail: fact about something, Wow-show surprise, and book-arrange to have a seat/spot. T will drill the words and have Ss count syllables and ask where stress is? To check understanding T will have the Ss do a set of matching workshhet.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will now tell class they are going to listen to a phone call. T will give Ss the task of a list of words in the chat and explain they need to put this in order (write in notebook) as they hear them in the phone call. T will ask CCQ: Are you going to write the words as you hear them in the phone call? Yes T will ask ICQ: Do you have the words in the chat? T will play audio twice and ask if they are finished or they need one more listen. Then put them in pairs to check answers. OCFB

While-Reading/Listening #2 (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T will send the Ss a google form of T/F questions (in the chat)based on phone call. T will tell Ss they are going to listen to audio again and answer the questions if they are T/. ICQ: Does everyone have the form? Yes/no. T will play audio 2-3 times for Ss to answer quetion. Then pair check before OCFB.

Post-Reading/Listening (2-4 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will ask Ss what's the farthest they have gone to go to an event they got invited to? Share with partner. Put in pairs and share with partner. Then share with class. End with any DEC.
