Description

In this lesson, students focus on new vocabulary through guided discovery based on the list given as a dictation activity. The lesson starts with revising the vocabulary worked on in the previous lesson. This is followed by the dictation activity of the vocabulary list where students prepare ( in groups ) and read stories about murder/mystery. Finally, there is a free speaking activity about what makes a story interesting or mysterious. The lesson continues with the video of Hitchcock explaining how to create suspense.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students revise the vocabulary worked on before by asking each other questions as an open class activity.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Teacher dictates the list of vocabulary as following: foggy, crime, suspect, victim, witness, blood spots, a dead body, testify, alibi, detective. After dictating the list of vocabulary, the teacher checks the list by writing it on the board and clarifies the meaning of each word as an open class activity.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students work in groups to prepare a story by using the exact order and form of vocabulary given by the teacher. Teacher walks around and answers questions, if there are any.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher takes notes while students share their stories and gives feedback by error correcting on the board, and also pointing out the good use of language.
