Procedure (26-45 minutes)
- In very beginning of the lesson, teacher illustrates two images of China - land of invention on the board Ex-1a and have students discuss what pictures are about and elicit the topic of the lesson - ICQs: Clear instruction is needed. - Get students to talk in pairs - Then ask learners below questions: What can you see in the photos? What things do you associate with: a) modern day china b) traditional china? - Feedback: ask students to share with class their ideas
- Students will be shown some visuals which lead them to target language. - Teacher elicits the language by letting students predicting the visuals. - Quick CCQs will be run if students are not able to produce the language in terms of new words - Teacher refresh students mind by reminding that the topic is about China. so, teacher will write country or land on top of the board and waiting for another half of topic which is 'land of invention' to elicit the invention from students and complete the topic on top - If learners are not able to say, then putt all visuals on the board and then students will be asked what the target language is. - CCQs: Is it about a country? Yes Is the country America? No Is it China? Yes Are the pictures about something in the future? No Are the pictures about creating something in the past? Yes What do we call action of creating or making in the past? Invention Do you know anything that was invented in China? - Feedback: Teacher elicits the target language from students
- learners are assigned to listen the recording carefully and answer the task. - Teacher distributes HOs. - ICQs: Are we going to answer some questions? Are we going to answer multiple questions and choose the best answer? - Students do the task individually - Monitoring: Teacher will monitor students while they are doing the task - Peer checking: students in pairs will do peer checking - Feedback: Teacher elicits answers from students
- Teacher distributes HOs - Students will be assigned Ex-2 to listen the recording and the true/false task. - ICQs: are you going to answer in a paragraph? are going to tick true, false or not given? - If the time permits and in case of necessity, the recording will be played again - Students will do it individually - Teacher will monitor the class - Peer checking - Feedback: teacher elicit answers in groups
- To personalize the target language, students will work in pairs and discuss questions in Ex-3. - ICQ: Let them know about timing and what they should do after working in pairs - Students will model the language by personalizing the topic - Teacher will monitor and do some delayed corrections if its needed -Feedback: in pairs students will share their ideas with whole class
