Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Benefits, side effects in the context of Hospital, clinic

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students with useful information they can use in real life situations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Work in pairs and discuss the benefits of each drug given. See appendix 1. Students need to use expression like: IT IS USED TO.. IT IS PRESCRIBED TO.. IT HELPS...

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students match a transcription abbreviation with their meaning, teacher then presents a chart for the students to study in preparation for a listening activity. See appendix 2

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Students work in pairs and compare their answers, teacher provide feedback and make sure their chart is correct.

Speaking activity (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

After reading the passage in the first part of appendix 3, work with a partner and discuss the questions below.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students work in pairs to prepare a role play, one have to act as the patience the other as the doctor then they present to the whole class, they need to use vocabulary seen in class Appendix 1.
