Description

In this lesson students will hear and practice vocabulary of language target about present perfect and past simple.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about present perfect and past simple in the context of about ambitions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan, inference, deduction and gist reading practice using a text about present perfect and past simple in the context of talking about ambitions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will show Ss in Jamboard an image of different kids dressed like different occupations and will ask the questions: "What were your ambitions when you were a kid?" and "were your ambitions realistic?". T will ask Ss to answer the questions individually.

Pre-teach Vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the audio and make it accessible

T will tell Ss that they will listen an audio, but before the audio we will check some words and their meanings. T will show Ss Forms and will introduce Task 1, the have to match MFP with 6 words. T will ask each S to read one each. Ss will work in pairs in breakout room.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T shows Ss audio about radio show. T plays the audio as Task 2 and ask the Ss "Let’s Listen: What is the audio talking about? About what these famous people did before they were famous? ...or about their dreams for the future?". T asks Ss to check their answers in Private message with their partner. T brings Ss back to the main room and check their answers in OCFB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T introduces Task 3, T explains Instructions "Listen to this extract of a radio show again. MATCH the person to the job". T divides the class in pairs in breakout rooms. T brings the class back and listen to their answers individually and check if their answers are right in OCFB

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the audio and expand on what they've learned

T introduces Slides with a timeline and explains what Present Perfect and Past Simple are. T shows Ss an example and provides explanation of each.T uses CCQ's to check the understanding of the Ss. T asks Ss to create one example themselves and sharing it in OCFB.
