Description

In this lesson, students will be exposed to native speaker's pronounciation of letters and spelling their names. Students will practice on their own names and some other words. Then students will practice guessing some names from their spelling.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set the context of the lesson and raise the students' interest in the topic

-post a picture of an unhappy customer ( a coffeeshop customer) -Elicit students to guess who she is, where she is, is she happy or sad, why is she happy or sad. -Pass students HO's to rank the reason why the girl is unhappy. They discuss in pairs how did they rank and why .

Stage 3 ( pre-listening 1) (10-12 minutes) • To make sure the students know how the letters are pronounced

-T produces the sounds and have the students drill. -T gives handouts of a seven-column table and asks students to guess which letter goes in which column in pairs. -T asks students to change partners and check if they have the same answers.

Listening 1 (14-16 minutes) • To check the students answer and decide the letters in which the they faced a pronounciatio difficulty

-Play record and students work in pairs to check their answers. -Have students choral drilling the groups to check both their answers and pronounciation. -Have students practice the pronounciation of difficult sounds in pairs.

Listening 2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide the students an opportunity to react to the previous listening of letters this time within names.

- Play the record and have students write the names. -Peer checking and then give every pair an answer key to correct. -monitor the correction to check if a particular word was difficult, replay it.

Practice 1 • To provide the students an opportunity to practice the spelling of names in authentic way.

-Have the students spell their names to each other in pairs. - Student A asks student B to spell his name and surname, then student B asks student A to spell his name and surmame. -Teacher monitors to note words to use in the feedback.

Practice 2 • encourage students to spell other words

-Students are devided into As and Bs. -Student A has 2 words from the text and student B has another 2 words. -students work in pairs to get each other spell the words.

Practice 2 • provide the students with a freer practice activity where they can practice what they have learned in a safe atmosphere

-every student is an imaginary charachter , with a secret name , job or country. -Students mingle , Student 1 spells his charachter's name - student 2 says the name , vice versa, and then student change partners.
