Main Aims
-
To provide clarification, practice and review of the past participle in the passive voice in the context of scientific discoveries.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a presentation in the context of in the context of a report on a given subject.
Procedure (42-55 minutes)
-T will explain the rules of the game -There are two teams -You will see a verb. You must give me the past and past participle form. -The team with the most points wins. -The Ss play the game and T corrects them when needed.
-T will show the Ss the active and passive forms of the same sentence. -T asks Ss to try to explain the difference. -T elicits basic sentence structure from Ss to lead them to find the structure of passive form. -T reminds Ss how to find subject, verb and object in a sentence. -T asks Ss for the rules of passive sentences.
-T provides examples of target language and analyzses it together with the Ss. -T tries to elicit the formula of passive form. -T shows the formula for passive form. -T models a sentence in active form, asking the Ss to find the subject/agent, verb and object. -T models how to turn it into a passive sentence, eliciting from the Ss.
-T shows the Ss the worksheet and gives instructions. -Ss work on it individually for 3-4 minutes. -Ss check their work in pairs. 1-3 minutes. -T shows answer key and asks for feedback.
-T shows students the worksheet and provides instructions. -Ss work on it individually for a few minutes. -Ss give T the asnwers and T provides feedback.
-T assigns Ss into 2 groups or they can work individually if there are only 3 students. -Ss write at least 2 of each type of sentence in active or passive voice about the topic of their choice. 4 mintues. -Ss swap sentences with their peers and change them into Active or Passive voice. 3 minutes. -Are you going to write new sentences? no -Are you going to change them all into active? no, only the passive ones. -What about the passive ones? we make them active. -Ss present the sentences to each other. -T provides correction and feedback.
