Main Aims

To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about to get up early in the context of a radio programme about getting up early from Tim Powell's life.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide clarification of phrasal verbs get up and wake up, asleep and local in pre-teaching vocabulary to help the students what they are listening.
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
-T greats Ss. -T asks some questions Ss to lead-in the listening task such as 'Do you get up very early or very late?Why?When?' -Ss answer these questions in the breakout rooms by speaking with each other. -In the main room, Ss give feedback from their conversation. -T provides feedback as needed.
-T shows some picture about the words which related to the listening task (get up, wake up, local, asleep). -T elicits the meaning and asks some questions for clear understanding such as 'Am I sleeping or not?' -T provides feedback as needed.
-T shows the exercise Ss and gives the instructions. -Ss look at the questions for a minute. -Ss listen to an audio for gist. -T sends Ss into the breakout rooms to discuss their answers. -In the main class, Ss compare their answers. -T provides feedback as needed.
-Ss listen to the audio again and complete the sentence about the audio. -Since it is just a sentence, Ss do this exercise as a class. -T shows Ss another task and gives the instructions. -Ss look the sentences for a minute. -Ss listen to another audio which related to the first audio by listening for details. -T sends Ss into the breakout rooms and Ss discuss their answers. -In the main class, Ss compare their answers. -T provides feedback as needed.
-T asks two questions Ss related to the audio that they listen. -T sends Ss into the breakout rooms for freer practice by speaking about the questions. -In the main room T takes some feedback from the Ss as much as she can. -T provides feedback as needed.
