Description

In this lesson, the students will learn about how to identify key points in a reading text. The lesson will start with showing the Ss a photo and asking them about the relationship between the teacher and it. Through that the students will know some vocabulary related to relationships.The students will try to guess the relationship between people in some pictures before reading the text and checking their ideas. After reading, the SS wiil try to guess the meanings of some words from the context. Students will practice speaking skill during the lesson.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, the learners will have learned how to identify key points in a reading passage.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, the learners will have practiced speaking in real life situations.
  • By the end of the lesson, the Ss will have learned new vocabulary.

Procedure

Warm - up (3-0 minutes) • The warm - up will activate the Ss schemata about relationships and related lexis.

- T will ask the WC some questions about a photo. Who is the person in the photo? Is that person from Europe? Is there any relation between the teacher and the person? What is the relation between her and the teacher?----etc. - The teacher write the word relationships in a circle on the board.

Pre reading (5-0 minutes) • By looking at some photos ss will think about the relationship between the people and the people in the photos they are holding.

Ss in pairs will think about the relationships between people in the photos before reading the article.

Reading an article (7-0 minutes) • By reading the article, the ss will check their ideas.

- By reading the text, the ss will check if their ideas about the photos are correct or not. Through this stage the ss get more information about the people in the photos. - T will check with the classroom to make sure that they understood.

Learning new vocabulary (12-0 minutes) • By looking at the text, the ss will be able to guess the meanings of some words.

- T will ask the ss to underline some words and in groups, they will try to guess the right meanings. - In pairs ss work together and check their answers. - T will discuss the meanings of the words with the ss and write the them on the board.

Reading for key points (5 minutes) • This stage allows the students to read for reasons behind carrying photos.

- Individually ss read for matching each person with their reason for carrying the photos. - SS will check their work in pairs after they finish.

Speaking (6 minutes) • This stage allows the ss to practice speaking in pairs and enhances their fluency.

In pairs, ss are going to speak about photos who they are carrying with them and say why they are carrying them all the time in their wallets or their mobile phones.

A game (7 minutes) • The Ss will be able to review the vocabulary that they learnt in the lesson.

In two teams the Ss will compete to grap the right word when the T says it. The winning team is the one who collects more cards.
