Procedure (45-59 minutes)
Ask the students where would they go if they can travel today? Personalize: Say that you would go to South Africa if you could travel today. Ask the students what would they do when they go to their desired destination.
Explain to the students that they will be listening to a conversation between two friends that went out shopping; one of the two people lost her wallet and couldn't buy anything, so she started to think if she was in her friend's place what would she buy. After the listen ask them what they understood from the conversation.
Explain the usage of the conditional if, by picking sentence that was said in the listening track Example: 1) If I had money, I would buy a new shirt. 2) If I had money, I would get some food. Explain the rules of the conditional If; how the clause is not fixed and can change. 1) You could have got a meal, if you didn't spend all your money.
Break the students in pairs and give them an assignment distribute on each pair one flash card and let them work on the topic using the conditional If.
Monitor the students and help if they needed any assistance. Once they are done with their report; ask the students to present their work. Make the feedback "peer to peer", afterwards provide accumulative feedback.
Using the flash cards, let the students all together read them in the context of conditional if "If I had money". Example: 1) If I had money, I would buy a car. 2)If I had money, I would travel around the world.
After providing the language analysis, distribute the practice sheet. Individually, the students should be able to solve the exercise. Let the students check each other's answers. Provide final feedback about the conditional If.
