Main Aims
-
To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about describing the current pandemic and predicting the future in the context of a personal account
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide clarification and practice of Passive Voice structures in the context of reading a personal account of the current pandemic
Procedure (35-44 minutes)
In the context of the ongoing pandemic, students are to be asked about what the number 1 thing that changed in their daily routine is. After each answer, the next one is to be asked by means of asking how the students relate to what was in the last answer given.
Students are to receive a Google Forms worksheet with both an authentic text and a number of not-so-tough general understanding questions. They shall go over the exercises individually, and after all is done we shall check the results in pairs. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSesCyW_2jc_jz5qT2nbEojK3KvdZj9ysjQs_bE9UYgwqfUWxA/viewform?usp=sf_link
Examples of Passive Voice structures in the Present (Simple, Continuous and Perfect), Past (Simple and Continuous) and also involving modals are to be exposed. They shall be taken from the very text which has been read already. Form is to be highlighted, and so is pronunciation. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1EYczNjdwGC_IzXeiJvHMHX-ZiRi7ERAcbPl_P78uw_s/edit?usp=sharing
Students are to be sent a Google Forms worksheet with a number of questions which are expected to make them examine the same text in more detail. They shall do so individually, and then answers shall be commented on as a group. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd0UMgS6FSxekPbIgAJL6Uj7OpRgOCqAQoUZumfzepujM0n3w/viewform?usp=sf_link
Students are to be given a Google Forms worksheet in which 5 statements regarding the ongoing pandemic and our future after it's over can be found. Students are expected to say whether they agree or not with said statements. Besides that, for each time a Passive Voice structure is made use of, the student who said it gets one point. The one who has the most points by the end of each discussion wins that round. Feedback shall be given after all is over. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScHWfZ6uTr-dPtJ88lcj2rqb2vBLJcPtxECo23dSJkp0poZYg/viewform?usp=sf_link
