Procedure (45-59 minutes)
My daily routine in the context of Present Simple Tense: -Talk about what I do every day in an order Example: I wake up at 6.30 am/ I have a shower/ I have breakfast/ I brush my teeth/ I put on my clothes/ I leave my house at 7.30/ I walk to my car/ I drive to work. - Ask students to speak to their partners about their daily routine and let some of them talk about their partners' routine.
Pick up a newspaper and pretend to read it. Ask the students what you're doing. They’ll say, “You’re reading a newspaper.” T: “What newspaper am I reading?” S: “You’re reading the newspaper.” Tell the students, “I read the newspaper every day.” Make a list of the things you do every day as a routine: I have breakfast at 7. I go to work at 9. I have lunch at 12. I go home at 5. I watch TV before dinner. I will make sure the students understand that I do this on a daily or weekly basis; these are habitual actions then go around the class and have students tell me what they do everyday or what some of their habits are. They should give more examples.
I will say “I read the newspaper everyday. Sarah, you read Mickey's magazine”. then go around the class giving examples like, “I go to work at 9. You go to school.” Face each of student and state a general truth: T: “Mariam, you live in Maadi.” Mariam (to teacher): “You live in Maadi, too.” T: “Sally, you have a dog.” Sally (to teacher): “You have a cat”.
On the PPT slide, I will show the rules of the Present Simple Tense. Point out that after he,she,it, we add -s to the verb. Example: I live in Maadi / She lives in Dokki. - Also point out that after he,she it, have becomes has Example: I have breakfast / She has breakfast.
- Give students instructions for the exercise and let them do it individually before allowing them to check the answers with their partners. - Students read the verbs and put them into the present simple in sentences then check in pairs. - Display the correct answers on the PPT.
- Students practice more by doing the exercise on the handout then check their answers with their partners. - Check the answers with the whole class. - The answers are on the backside of the handout.
- Get students to work in small groups. - Give each group the daily routine flash cards. - Allow them to make sentences in their group according to the nouns of the pictures.
