Procedure (45-55 minutes)
Point to students in order and count using fingers, with no speaking. Then repeat but get students count with speaking. Show students FCS in a motivating way e.g hide part of the FCS and let students guess what is the number. Give students instructions how to answer the activity. ask ICQs to check that students understand what they are going to do. Give them HO for ex.1 Ask them to put the numbers in the correct order. Get students to check their answers in pairs. Then , ckeck for the whole class. As a preparation to ex.3 , give students HOs for numbers and words for these numbers.Ask students to match the words with their numbers. Give students HOs for ex.3, and get students to write the numbers for the words.
"OK, we are going to do a reading . I want to check that you know a few words." Write on WB lucky-unlucky-common-sequence. Elicit from students the meaning . Show the pictures for lucky and unlucky. Give examples for common, e.g choose a student and ask him/her about his/her favorite color, and ask who else love the same color. say that they have something in common.To illustrate sequence , write on WB some numbers in sequence e.g 1234567, , 14253, and ask students which one is in sequence . Use gestures . Write on WB 3 8 13 . Ask students to work in pairs talking about the significance of these numbers.Give students HO3 to compare their ideas with the ones in the text.
Get students to work in pairs discussing the questions in ex.2. Then ask them to compare their answers with the text. Check the answers.
Get students to read one more time searching for numbers that are related to some places.
Get students to work in groups discussing the questions in ex.3 Observe students and give feedback for verb to be.
Divide students into three teams by giving them names such as, lucky, happy, and pretty.Hang the number words on WB . Give simple, and clear instructions for the game.Ask ICOs to check that students understand the instructions.Get students stand in three rows. Tell them that when I call a number , they should hurry to pick it . The winner is the team who has the biggest number of words.
