Description

In this lesson the students will read a text and try to correct some factual mistakes in a summary. This lesson is designed to prevent students from worrying if they don't understand any new word. They will guess those unknown words to do this activities.

  • To practice reading to correct factual mistakes in a summary .

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking: Justifying your choices.
  • Guessing unknown words without worrying.

Procedure

Warm Up (5-6 minutes) • To activate Ss schemata about skydiving

Teacher will write the word "adrenalin" on the board and ask Ss to say words related to this word. Ss will make a list of the subjects and activities that they think might be included in a unit entitled "adrenalin". Getting feedback from the whole class

Gist reading (5-6 minutes) • To get the main idea of the text

Teacher will first explain skydiving, ask if any of the students has ever done it. teacher go through the first three questions then asks them to read the the text to decide which one best describes Mike's feelings about skydiving. There may be some new words but Ss will be told to ignore and just try to guess them.

Student training stage (10-12 minutes) • To make Ss correct the mistakes

Teacher focuses Ss attention on the example, pointing out that each sentence contains one factual mistakes and asks them to correct them. Students do it alone then check their answers in pairs before checking with the class.

True False questions (5-6 minutes) • to decide whether the sentences True or False

Students are given some statements and then asked to decide whether they are true or false.

Comprehension questions (7-8 minutes) • To make Ss understand the text better by reading it again and answering comprehension questions.

Students will be given a handout that contains comprehension questions and asked them to answer them. Students will work in pairs. After completing the task they will discuss their answers with their partners.

Speaking (5-10 minutes) • To make Ss speak and produce their own sentences

Teacher will ask the Ss to discuss the questions in pairs and then to report back to the class on their discussion.
