Elementary level

Description

In this lesson students will learn about the possessive adjectives. Lesson starts with a warm up as T tries to remember S names. In Lead-in part T will remind about the listening part that was done in the previous lesson and continue with related exercise to check S knowledge of TL. Later the grammar teaching will follow with test exercise. Final task is talking exercise that will create a whole - class mingle.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice possessive adjectives.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide controlled speaking practice of the target language.

Procedure

Warmer (2-4 minutes) • To learn students' names

Introduce myself - Laura / lemon (echo from first intro lesson association game). T checks how well he remembers the names and related words of the students'. T points and says S's name and related word. If S is new, T asks to think of a word from S's first name letter (for example Elif Elephant)

Lead - in (2-4 minutes) • To relate the lesson to the context of the previous lesson

Chest Global elementary p. 13 and point at listening exercise and pictures. Show hotel lobby picture. Elicit the place. Show hospital picture. Elicit the place. Show language school picture. Stick it on WB. Elicit the place and receptionist (T acts as S and as receptionist with the help of the picture,)

Pre-Grammar (7-10 minutes) • Check students use of the target language

Chest HO1 Read and circle the correct answer. ICQ - What will you do? -Check in pairs -WCFB - elicit answers / clarify as necessary

Teach Grammar (5-7 minutes) • To clarify how the target language is used in a sentence

Show page 13 and point to the 3 pictures - remember these? On WB stick 3 words - their / my / your On WB - name's Steinbeck. One S comes, chooses one possessive adj and puts it in the correct order in the sentence T does demo just with body language ICQ - how many words will you take? On WB - What's telephone number? S comes On WB - Here's key. S comes "Look at possessive adjectives. How do we use them?" If there are no answers, underline the nouns and repeat question, PW So what's the rule? (before the noun - elicit noun) WCFB

Test 1 (12-15 minutes) • Check students use of the target language

Chest HO2. On WB - draw tick. Elicit with body language is it good or bad? (thumb up and down). On WB - draw x. Elicit with body language is it good or bad? (thumb up and down). On WB: Is this your book? Elicit answer tick or x. On WB : I name is Sarah. Elicit answer tick or x. Elicit correct answer - on WB: My name is Sarah. ICQ - If it's correct answer, will you tick or cross? If it's incorrect answer, will you tick or cross? And? -Check in pairs -WCFB - elicit answers / clarify as necessary on WB: 1. tick, 2. x - their etc.

Spoken practice (10-13 minutes) • Check students use of the target language

Chest HO3 show tables and count - 1.2.3. point to yourself and 3 students. Demo ICQ - With how many students will you be talking? Will you be writing the answers? Stand up and mix. Ask about their hobbies (What is Suna's hobby? Anybody knows?) Collect errors and do delayed error correction
