Description

Students will work on using phrasal verbs in context of morning and evening routines. Ss will first be exposed to the TL in a text and gist-task. Afterwards TL will be clarified through MFP. Afterwards, CP will be given as group work. The last part of the lesson, FP, will give the students opportunity to practice and hopefully accurately use the TL in both question and answer formats.

Main Aims

  • Ss will understand the lexis of phrasal verbs used especially in context of morning and evening routines and be able to accurately produce them.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy based speaking practice with phrasal verbs in both question and answer forms

Procedure

Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Google Whiteboard and ask two questions: What do people usually do in the morning? What do you do? Give personal example- I always eat breakfast Record class examples

Gist Task (8-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Screen share activity. Explain task. Answer 1st with class Share link. 4 min individual work. 2 min peer check (BR rooms) 2 min review

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Share screen. 2-2.5 min IND matching work. 30 sec-1 min OCFB/check 8 min MFP with 4 Phrasal Verbs from task

Controlled Practice (8-8 minutes) • To check for accuracy and to prepare students for more meaningful FP

Share screen. Conduct group work in BR rooms 6 min Check/OCFB 2 min

Free Practice (11-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Share screen. Give instructions. Peer interview Model the interview with a student BR rooms in pairs 5-6 min then switch roles

DEC/Feedback (2 minutes) • Clarify and/or Drill

Use Google Whiteboard to clarify or practice anything noticed throughout the lesson, especially from monitoring FP If no time left or nothing noticed to correct then just to say goodbye
