To provide Ss practice in reading and listening for specific information in the context of a love story.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of love story.
Procedure (46-54 minutes)
-T aks Ss to put them in context: -Have you ever made a promise? -What did you promise?
-T will show photos and ask the Ss to tell what they see in the photo. Vocabulary: engagement, fireplace, builder, nervous, keep / break a promise. -For each word T will: -Ask Ss to say the word out loud; -Drill; -Point out phonetic transcription and stress of the word.
-T shows slide 8 with the photos of a couple reading: 'I'll never forget you'. -Ss say what they can see in the photo. -Ss answer the questions: -How old do you think they are in each photo? -What do you think happened between the two photos? -Ss look at slide 9 and tell what the 'time expressions' mean: ->a few years later ->17 years ago ->for ten years ->a year after
-Ss read the article and complete the gaps with the time expressions discussed above. Give 3-4 minutes for Ss to read and complete. -In pairs, Ss compare their answers. -Back in the main room, T shows the AK and SS check their answers. -Individually, Ss read the text again and answer three questions. -After 5 minutes, in pairs, Ss compare their answers. -Back in the main room, Ss check their answers against the AK.
-Ss read the statements in slide 13 before listening to Audio 6.9. -Ss listen to Audio 6.9 twice and complete the statements. -Ss compare their answers in pairs. -Back in the main room, Ss check the answers against the AK.
-Ss look at the questions on slide 16 and discuss them in pairs. -Why do you think Carmen's mother didn't send the letter? -Do you think 'I'll never forget you' is a promise people usually keep or break? -Do you keep your promises?
