Procedure (33-43 minutes)
T says hello to students, shares screen, goes to first slide on presentation and introduces themselves. T moves to next slide where there is a picture on the right. T asks students "who is this?" while pointing at the astronaut, then writes answer on the left side. T asks "what is this?" while pointing at the space shuttle, then writes answer on the left side. T asks "what about this?" while pointing at Earth, then writes answer on the left side. T asks "where are they?" while circling space, then writes answer on the left side. T moves to next slide where there is a picture of the logo of NASA on the right. T asks students "what is NASA?" while pointing at the picture, then writes answer on the left side.
T goes to next slide. T points to text and instructs: "read this text fast, you have 2 minutes, and start" T waits 2 minutes then stops sharing the screen and says "Open link in chat-box, answer the question and submit, you have 1 minute, go!" T waits 1 minute and then goes over the answer quickly, praising students.
T goes to next slide to cover meaning of TL. T elicits meaning by reading the chosen sentences from the text and asking students to pick the correct meaning. Example: "When do you sleep?...is this asking about a number or a time?" T circles the answer "time". T sends link in chat-box (https://jamboard.google.com/d/1Rqhkn_K8ihpNn8CstH7EZWwIOCUVNDYPzPGN215vZ_4/edit?usp=sharing) T instructs: "Open the link in the chat-box, talk to each other here and match 1 - 6 with a -f. You have 3 minutes" After 3 minutes, T goes over answers quickly. T summarizes: "We just went over question words, now you know what they mean" T goes to next slide to cover form of TL. T elicits form of TL from students by asking them "do you see any similarities?" and "where does the question word go in the sentence?" and "what kinds of words follow the question word?" T then elicits other question sentences by calling on two students and saying "(name) give me an example of another question" and writing down their sentences. T summarizes: "We just went over form of question word sentences, now you know how to make these questions" T goes to next slide to cover pronunciation of TL. T elicits from students which words in each sentence are stressed by saying "listen" and reading the sentence and then asking "what words are the most pronounced in this sentence (name)?" and putting a mark above each stressed word. If students don't know, T tells them "the most important words are stressed". T then elicits linking of words by reading sentence again and asking "which words sound connected?" T shows intonation of these questions by comparing them to yes/no questions. T says "listen, when do you sleep? (falling intonation) Do you sleep? (rising intonation)". T gets students to repeat after her one by one. T summarizes: "We just went over the stress, linking, and tone of question word sentences, now you know how to pronounce them"
T shares screen on controlled practice task. T says "I'm going to send you a link, there are questions you need to complete by choosing the correct question word. Lets do the first one together" T demos the task. T sends link in chat-box (https://forms.gle/vstUkUWXnpcu5tSa6) and says "open the link, do the questions and submit, you have 6 minutes" T waits for responses and shares their screen to go over answers quickly.
T moves to next slide where there are question words. T instructs "using these question words, write down 3-4 questions you can ask someone, you have 3 minutes" T asks ICQ "(name) what do I want you to do?" "you can start" T waits 3 minutes then says "Okay, I'm sending you to breakout rooms. Ask your partner questions, use the ones you wrote down. You have 5 minutes." T observes Ss and takes notes. T brings Ss back to main room, shares their screen and does feedback and DEC.
