Procedure (31-44 minutes)
First of all, I will introduce the concept with famous people. Each student will have a famous person on their back and they mingle and ask some questions to each other to guess who they are. The questions can be: -Is this person female or male? -Is s/he a film star or a singer? -Is s/he blonde? -Is s/he American? etc. Then I will want them to guess the topic for our listening and get their ideas.
I will show them some visuals for words that they need to study before listening. Then I will check understanding of these words; 1. cute (adj) (I will show a cute cat photo.) - Is this cat real or a toy? - Is this cat a baby? 2. a chauffeur (n) (I will show a limo chauffeur photo.) - Is he a business man? - Is this his own car? 3. a cab (n) (I will show a cab photo.) - Do you ask driver to take you somewhere when you take it? - Do you need to pay for your trip? 4. get fired (v) (I will show a boss and employee.) - Is the young men happy? - Is the boss waving her hand? - Is he leaving his office? 5. ın charge - Can the man leave the dog alone? - Does he care about the dog? I will help them with the pronunciation of the trickier words. I will also focus on word stress. These words are; chauffeur /ˈʃəʊfə/ cab /kab/ get fired /gɛt 'faɪəd/ ın charge / in chahrj/
The students will listen to the audio. There is a matching handout for this part. They will check the names of the people in the radio show and famous people that these people have met before. Then they will listen to it and then match the speakers to the stars that they have met in their jobs. First, they will check their answers with their partners then we will check it as WC.
There are three conversations in the listening. First, the sts read the sentences. The students will listen to each conversation one by one. At the end of each conversation they will fill in the blanks with the initial of each person in the radio talk show. If they find it challenging, I will give feedback after each step.
The students will try to find the person who has the most interesting story with a famous person. They will ask some questions to their friend for eg. "Where did you meet?, "What happened?", "Did you talk with him/her?" and then take some notes about their stories. At the end they will share the interesting stories about friends who met a famous person. During this activity they will walk around the classroom.
