To provide detailed listening practice using an audio about extreme temperatures.

To provide fluency speaking practice in a brief discussion and controlled practice in the context of extreme temperatures
Procedure (46-56 minutes)
-As a group, Ss will use a padlet to brainstorm the hot and cold places they can think of.
-Ss and T will check the words given to help predict Helena's story. -T will elicit the words considered important to understand the story. -E.g. pyramids, broke down, heat exhaustion, rehydration salts. *pyramids - Show Helena's photo and ask what is behind Helena? The pyramids. *broke down - Is it a verb or phrasal verb? Phrasal verb. Tell a short story. Refer to Language analysis TP4. *heat exhaustion - Tell a short story. Refer to language analysis TP4. *rehydration salts - First, check whether Ss know 'hydration', and go from there. Refer to Language analysis TP4.
-T will introduce Helena to Ss. -T will ask, based on the photo and the words, briefly discuss: What do you think happened to her? -T will play the audio once for Ss to check whether their predictions were true. Were your predictions true? -T shows the questions in Ex. 3, gives time for Ss to read, and plays the audio for Ss to answer the questions. -Ss listen to the audio one more time to check their answers. -Ss discuss their answers in pairs. -Back in the main session, we give feedback as a group.

-T will introduce Abi to Ss. -T will show the words, related to Abi's story, one by one, and check that Ss know the meaning of all of them (we have discussed some above). -T will ask, based on the photo and the words: What do you think happened to her? -T will play the audio once for Ss to check whether their predictions were true. -Based on the questions Ss answered for Helena, Ss will answer for Abi. -Ss listen one more time to check their answers. -Ss discuss their answers in pairs. -Back in the main session, Ss have feedback.
-Ss will look at a list of different adverbs that were used in the audio. -T will check that the meaning of these adverbs is understood. -Ss read the sentences and prepare to listen to the audios one more time to fill in the gaps with the appropriate adverb. -While listening, Ss will also follow the audio transcript. -In pairs, Ss discuss their answers. -Back in the main room, Ss have feedback as a group.
