Procedure (29-39 minutes)
Introduce Google Jamboard - frame #1 Ask Ss to describe the image (Moon over New York City) Ask the following questions to generate interest in the music listening lesson: 1. Can music help you learn English? 2. How? 3. Who is your favorite artist? Encourage all Ss to contribute.
Advance to Google Jamboard - frame #2 Introduce the original song "Arthur's Theme" Teach a selection of phrases taken from the lyrics * Living his life one day at a time * Someone that turns your heart around * When you get caught between the Moon and New York City Clarify as necessary, primarily using MEANING.
Advance to Google Jamboard - frame #3 Instruct Ss to open Google Form and prepare to listen to song. 1. Instructions - GOOGLE Form 2. Play song 3. Answer 4 questions related to scan/Gist listening. 4. Group Feedback with the following questions; * Did you like the song? * Have you heard it before? * Do you think that Arthur is happy? Encourage every Ss to contribute and participate in the discussion.
Advance to Google Jamboard - frame #4 Instruct Ss to advance to Google Form section #2 quiz and prepare to listen to song a second time. 1. Instructions - GOOGLE Form section #2 quiz 2. Play song - Arthur's Theme 3. Answer 6 YES/NO questions related to skim / detail listening. 4. Conduct group feedback with the following phrases from the song: * Once in your life you find her * And next thing you know you're closing down the town * Even though you left her way across town * Deep in his heart, he's just, he's just a boy * Laughing about the way they want him to be * I know it's crazy, but it's true Discuss results of Ss quiz and conduct limited language clarification on bold words and phrases. Advance to Google Jamboard - frame #5 Instruct Ss to choose one of two phrases from the song and describe to the class if and how the phrase can be applied to their own life.
