Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide gist writing and practice of writing email topic
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide opportunity to learn the framework of an email and practice writing regarding the topic
Procedure (38-45 minutes)
I will show pictures of letter and email first, and ask Ss to discuss 'what's the difference between letters and emails' and 'what do you prefer?' in breakout rooms. Then I will ask students to match the emails to words. By doing so, they will learn the difference between 'formal' and 'informal.'
I will provide a gist reading, which there is one question to answer. Ss will have one minute to answer the general question. After they are done, I will do OCFB.
In this stage, I will teach three useful languages in emails. There are 'Dear xxx', 'How are you?' and 'Best wishes.'
This is the key stage of the lesson. In parallel writing, Ss will be asked to fill in the blanks on the Google Forms. Then they will be asked to put sentences of an email in order. After parallel writing, I will ask Ss to do freer writing. Ss will reply to the email they just worked on. I have different pages ready on Google Docs, so each student will write on each page. Before they write, I will present an sample writing so that Ss can have a clear idea.
I will first show some checking criteria for Ss to check. Then I will ask Ss to check each other's work based on the criteria. After the checking, they will be discussed in peers. Finally, I will conduct a DEC at the end of the class.
