Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T shows slides of 2 movies and 2 books -T Has anyone seen these films or read these books? -T Do you believe reviews are useful? Why or why not? SS respond with their ideas

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

-T gives students an example of a review of the film Slum Dog Millionaire to read. CCQ's What can you notice about the review? in which section is the....Intro, Plot Summary, Conclusion Recommendation in which section do we talk about the director or author? Introduction in which section do we describe the main story? Plot Summary in which section do we offer our recommendation? Recommendation

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-T shows a slide with phrases used in reviews -T second slide shows a list of language chunks related to films and books -Instructions: organize these phrases and words into two columns SS work together to decide which are related to the description and which are genre -T provides FB -T shows third slide with adjectives describing different genre of books and films Instructions: Which group of adjectives describe these genre? -T provides FB -T shows slide Instructions: put it all together SS combine articles with modifier, adjectives and noun or genre

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-T you will write a review on Google docs Instructions: Include 3 paragraphs Introduction Plot Summary Conclusion/Recommendation Include a min of 3 adjectives say which genre it is SS go into google docs and write for 20 minutes -T monitors as learners are writing and makes notes on CE for FB

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-T asks learners to read their reviews (in not too large of a group) -T can anyone offer any tips on how SS could improve on their review? Instructions: Fill out the quiz to check if your partner completed all the steps needed in writing a review. -T provides OCE and FB on writing to learners
