Procedure (38-44 minutes)
T – Ss , Ss- Ss The teacher will use (TP 3 Jamboard https://jamboard.google.com/d/1wJHAdWkA2NCk3rclTOOtY3sK1HswuyeGhYwDAeeYkzE/edit?usp=sharing) to welcome learners and set a calm, safe tone of the classroom environment. The teacher will show past and present comparative images (based on Harry Potter) to students to lead learners to understand Simple Past. Teacher will ask learners to discuss two questions: 1) When you looked at the comparative photographs, what do you notice about the Past? 2) If you can write a bibliography and reflect on your (past) life story. What would you write about? The teacher will use Break Out rooms to get learners to discuss with peers. The teacher will facilitate an OCFB for learners and provide an opportunity to let them present their prior knowledge and discussions to the entire class. Teacher will share lesson objectives with the class 1) Learners will be able to review the use of Simple Past 2) The learner will be able to connect learning with the world around them
T-Ss, Ss- Ss The teacher will use exercise 9 (a fill-in on Simple Past) as a Gist task. The teacher will instruct learners to read and complete exercise 9 via (TP 3 Gist Google Forms https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfaUe2uA2mtHMJMviAT32aSXdQhmKYf3AEnUOVpz4o0VedNqw/viewform?usp=sf_link). The teacher will use Break Out rooms to get learners to discuss with peers. Learners are to compare answers in pairs or small groups using Break Out rooms. and Teacher will facilitate an OCFB for learners and provide an opportunity to let them present their prior knowledge and discussions to the entire class. The teacher will use the answers in exercise 9 to achieve marker sentences for the lesson and reinforce learning of Simple Past.
T- Ss, Ss- T The teacher will use (TP 3 Jamboard https://jamboard.google.com/d/1wJHAdWkA2NCk3rclTOOtY3sK1HswuyeGhYwDAeeYkzE/edit?usp=sharing) to cover Meaning, Form, and Pronunciation of the language. The teacher will use TL from the Controlled Practice to teach. TL; Talk, Enjoy, Make, Wore. TL are verbs that are useful for learners to apply to their daily lives. The teacher will construct examples of how regular and irregular simple past can be applied to daily lives. 1) Talk Meaning: 1) Does it help you to communicate ideas to others? 2) Will you be heard? Pronunciation: [tɔːk] Form: Verb Regular verb (-ed) sentence: 1) We talkED on the phone yesterday. 2) I talkED to her last week. 3) He talkED to his best friend. 2)Enjoy Meaning: • Do you feel happy? • Did you benefit from something? Pronunciation: ɛnˈdʒɔɪ Form: Verb Regular verb (-ed) sentence: 1) I enjoyED your presentation. 2) They enjoyED the day at the beach. 3) I enjoyED my lunch. 3)Make Meaning: 1) Is it creative? 2) Did you combine something together? Pronunciation: [meɪk] Form: Verb Irregular verb (no rules) sentence: 1) She MADE apple pie. 2) I MADE steak. 3) The bird MADE a nest. 4)Wear Meaning: 1) Will you keep you warm? 2) Did you cover something? Pronunciation: [wɛː] Form: Verb Irregular verb (no rules) sentence: Dad wore his jacket. She WORE her glasses. They WORE their masks.
Ss- Ss , T – Ss The teacher will use (TP 3 Controlled Practice Google Forms https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScpCxdSNHV2A7EdbwipbkqPn4BgwWLqqVYRBibUpxBANFIDOA/viewform?usp=sf_link) to teach learners how to apply simple past to their daily lives. Teacher will instruct learners to do this individually, then check in pairs (via private messages on the chatbox) 1) Create three sentences to describe what you did earlier today. 2) Discuss with your partner if they are regular or irregular verbs and why. The teacher will conduct an OCFB for learners to share their ideas. The teacher may nominate learners to answer. Learners will present their answers.
Ss-Ss, Ss- T, T- Ss The teacher will use (Break Out Rooms) to conduct a communicative task. Teachers will instruct leaners to answer: 1) Share a memorable moment in the / your past. 2) The teacher will conduct an OCFB for learners to share their ideas. The teacher will conduct DEC (if any).
