Procedure (35-45 minutes)
T displays slide 1: old photos of people from school and asks Ss the questions: What kind of information do we usually share with people? (personal) Do we usually share this information with people we know or strangers? (people we know) Why/ Why not? Because it is private and only relevant to the people in the group. T asks: Who might I share the information on this slide with? (people at a school reunion)
Slide 2: T displays slide 2 and asks Ss: Who/ what do you think the information in the slides represents? Imagine you are looking at photos of these things in a photo album or scrapbook. Ss guess T implicitly models some TL (explanations) through spoken feedback on personal information.
T displays slide 3 and instructs Ss to complete the circle with personal information: Complete the circle with an important number or date. Think about what you are going to say. Write notes if you need to. You have 1 minute. ICQ: Do you need to write sentences? (No, only notes or nothing.) How long do you have? (1 minute) T tells Ss Get in pairs and talk to each other about an important number/ date. You have 5 minutes (in breakout rooms) Be ready to report back on what your partner says. T monitors Ss and conducts OCFB T focuses on FB to orient Ss to TL. What id you learn about your partner? Are there any other ways you could say ..?
Slides 6-8 T shows SS examples of personal information. - Why is/ was the number 9 important for you? - Where exactly is The Coach House? - Can you tell me a bit more about Mary? T asks (M) Are these questions about general or specific information? (specific) (A) Are these questions generally formal or informal? (informal esp. 'Can you tell me a bit more about ...?) T asks Ss to match the expressions with their uses (slide 9) T demos Jamboard task. Ss do matching task (Jamboard Slide 4) T conducts OCFB T asks (F) Can you change these expressions much?
