Procedure (61-72 minutes)
-T shows a picture to SS , and asks to think about this picture( what's it for?) , and express their ideas - T asks 4 specific questions and writes them on the board about advertisement picture and engage students more - T asks these questions :what's your favorite advertisement at the moment? / what's it for? / Does it have a story?/ Is it funny?/ what makes an advertisement memorable?
- T says let's go to page 67,T asks SS to read about the products on the first column, - T writes advertisement, advert, and ad on the board and elicit and mark the stress on the first two ( advertisement, advert) , makes sure SS know that advertisement is a countable noun and publicity is an uncountable similar in meaning, but more general. -T points out that the first example, has been done for them and plays just this first beginning of an advertisement to demonstrate the activity - Plays the rest of the recording for students to number the products - T asks about what they are going to do? ( ICQ)
- T plays the rest of the recording for SS to number the products - T asks SS to share their answers - T focuses SS's attention on the rest of the chart. - T plays the recording of the full text advertisements so SS can complete the chart - T plays audio again after each sentence pauses, then let SS take notes - T plays audio again let SS check their answers - T let SS check in pair and then go through the answer as a class
- T gives SS time to read the questions - T deals with any vocabulary queries, - T plays the recording of the full advertisements again, pauses where necessary to give students time to write answers. - T allows SS to check answers in pairs - T goes through the answers as a class - T shows the answer key to SS
- T elicits SS's opinion about the advertisement - ( T asks) which ones are the most effective? why?/ what makes an advert memorable? - SS are supposed to share their ideas with class
-T puts SS in small groups of three or four, point out that they need to create an advert which includes a conversation as in the ones they heard - SS may choose a product from the list or invent their own - T monitors this stage carefully to ensure variety within the class and that their own choices are appropriate - t asks SS to decide on the selling point of their product ( as in the last column of the chart in exercise 2) - SS discuss the setting and characters for their advertisement. - T gives SS a plenty of time to write their dialogues. T monitors and helps when necessary - T gets SS to rehearse their advertisement ( including physical movement / action if it's a TV advert) - T asks SS to act their advertisements for the class. SS in the 'audience' should try to understand what the product is and what the selling point is - T elicits these facts from the class after each performance . Notes any points for correction together later and find one thing to praise each group/ pair for.
