Description

In this lesson, the learners are going to learn "question tags". A text with examples of question tags will be given. Clarification of the grammar and controlled exercises for practicing the target language.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of question tags in the context of daily activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information reading practice using a text with questions in the context conversations between friends.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Jamboard with a question : "when was the last time you cancelled plans?" to set context on questions and warm the students for a creation of questions and the text.

Presentation through the text (8-10 minutes) • To provide a text for students to practice the target language.

Presentation of a text for students to see the target language for the first time in a context with a casual conversation between two friends. After reading the text, a gist task activity will be given to test students ability to remember what the text was about.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • Provide clarification on form, pronunciation and meaning of the target language

Google slides with sentences taken from the text to present the target language and clarify meaning, pronunciation, and form.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity for students to practice the target language

Controlled practice will be a selection of exercises for students to complete the sentences to form tag questions in different verb tenses and using different auxiliaries. After the learners complete the exercise, students will compare answers and I will conduct open class feedback on the exercises.

Freer Practice (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to practice the target language with a speaking exercise.

A jamboard will be presented with a guessing game for students to do it in pairs practicing the target language, trying to make assumptions about their peers: "Paula, you like chocolate, don't you ?" the other students replies the assumption with the truth and another tag question. : " I like chocolate, but you don't drink milk, do you?"

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To clarify any questions from the lesson

I will conduct open class feedback on the lesson, coment on the freer practice and answer any question that might arise about tag questions.
