  • To practice listening for gist and detail in the context of planning a vacation.

  • To provide fluency for talking about going on holiday.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The T will share google slide 1 with Ss. The T will read the question and demo while giving instructions. The T will give the Ss 3 minutes to write their responses. The T will read the responses as they are writing them.

Pre-Teach Vocab. (5-7 minutes) • To teach blocking vocabulary and cover MFP.

The T will share a google form titles Pre-Teach Vocab.. The T will demo and give instructions. The T and Ss will do the first question together. The T will share the link in the public chat box with the Ss : https://forms.gle/o6Rd5LFAkWoYaC3e9 The T will give the Ss 3 minutes to answer the questions. The T will share the screen with the responses and go over them. The T will screen share google slide 4. The T will say each Vocab word and elicit where the word stress is in each word. The Ss will choral drill after each Vocab word. The T will elicit where sentence stress is in " What kind of accommodation ? " The T will elicit where linking is in the sentence " What kind of accommodation ? "

Reading for Gist (5-6 minutes) • To ask Ss to identify the main idea of the audio.

The T will screen share the Gist google form. The T will give instructions " you will listen for the main idea." You have 2 minutes. The T will share the link : https://forms.gle/q693foVLCH6keYbw6 The T will ask the students if they could open the link. The T will play the audio. We will go over responses.

Reading for Detail (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The T will screen share the 'reading for detail' google form . The T will tell students " I will play the audio again. Listen for how the couple respond to the travel agent. Answer the questions as you listen. We will listen two times. " The T will share the link in the public chat box: https://forms.gle/foGqjDhdiPaMFD1T8 The will ask Ss if they were able to open the link. The T will play the audio. The T will play the audio once more. The T will send the Ss to breakout rooms for 3 minutes to compare answers in pairs. We will have OCFB.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to react or personalize the topic through speaking and listening.

The T will screen share the Post-Activity google slide. The T will tell the Ss " We will go to Breakout Rooms in pairs. One person asks these questions, listens, and chooses where your partner should go. Then switch roles. You have ten minutes." The T nominates a student and asks " Are you going to ask your partner these questions ? Yes. Are you going to listen to your partner ? Yes. Are you going to tell them where they should go ? Yes." The T will send them the link to then google slide: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1JJJiNgdqQPvpPSS5CdyW0pXYXEmcNJCAYVuonlDg0LM/edit?usp=sharing The T will ask them if they can open it. The T will send them to Break Out Room and start the 10 minute timer. The T will monitor the listening/speaking activity. When the 10 minutes are up, we will return to the main room. The T will nominate Ss to answer : " Where did you tell your friend to go and why ? "
