Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Share TP6 Jamboard with question: Which of these are most important for you when you choose a restaurant? Elicit answers.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Send TP6 Exposure Form link in chat. Say: Today we are going to look at writing a restaurant review. Click on the link in the chat and quickly read the 2 restaurant reviews. You have 4 minutes to quickly read and I am available if you have questions or need help. You can write to me in the chat or unmute your mic and say it. Go ahead and click on the link and read the reviews.

Useful Language (4-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ask CCQs: Are the restaurant reviews we looked at in the exercise formal or informal? Do they have a structure? Not really Do they use personal or vague language? Personal Who is the audience that Lee Min and Isabelle have in mind when writing their review? People who might eat at the restaurant Are there specific things that should be covered in an informal restaurant review? Yes: location, atmosphere, food, service, and value for money Share MFPA slide covering atmosphere, service, value for money

Productive Task(s) (6-7 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Send link of Productive Task Quiz form using the Tia Kitchen reviews to chat. Say: The link in the chat is a quick exercise to identify how Lee Min and Isabelle wrote about location, atmosphere, food, service, and value for money by identifying where they talked about each in their reviews. Click on the link to take the quiz. You do not have to submit it when you are done, but give me a thumbs up in the chat when you are done with the quiz so we can go over it together. You will have 4 minutes to work on it. If you need help or have a question please message me or ask. Bring students back and review quiz highlighting target layout usage and language.

Freer Practice (14-15 minutes) • Students write a text similar to the sample previously analyzed with the intention of using the conventions of the genre in a freer manner.

Say: Now we are going to write our own restaurant review making sure that we include location, atmosphere, food, service, and value for money. We will be using padlet.com so everyone will be able to see what you are typing. We are going to use this for our feedback and correction time. Each of you will have your own column to write your review in. Think of your favourite restaurant or a restaurant where you had a bad experience and write a review on that restaurant. Make sure that you include something about the location, atmosphere, food, service, and value for money. You will have 15 minutes to write your short review. Under your name click on the + sign to start your review. Send padlet link to chat. Say: click on the link, find your column and start typing a restaurant review.

Publishing & Feedback (10-11 minutes) • Learners publish their text for everyone to read with peer evaluation and teacher feedback.

Bring students back and share padlet screen. Say: In padlet I want you to Take 5 minutes to Correct any mistakes you see in the review to your review's right. (Assign who should be working on who's). Make sure that they Have talked about location, atmosphere, food, service, and value for money. Elicit 1 or 2 volunteers to talk about the review they underlined and corrected. Ask how they talked about location, atmosphere, food, service, and value for money. Do language feedback highlighting good examples and corrections or reformulations in padlet so everyone can see.
