Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To engage students to the use of second conditional in specific current context speaking about the pandemic

In this lesson, students will be taught the second conditional using if clause and main clause in the context of "If...., I would/wouldn't" in daily situations with the following questions: 1. If the pandemic ended right now, what would you do? Before that, T. gives his opinion, shares his options to invite the Ss to do the same with other hypothesis -suggested by pictures- following the structure "If the pandemic ended right now, I would or I'd ....". They work in pair for 2 minutes, then collective sharing.

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

- Provide examples with second conditional to find in a short text. Students will find 2 consequences with "I would..." in one minute. Sharing. (2 minutes) What would I do if I won the Lottery? If I won the lottery... Wow! I would do so many things, and my life would be so different. I’d love the chance to change my life with the money. The first thing I would do is buy a big, new house. With all that money, I would buy anything I wanted, for example I would buy a new car. Or, I’d even buy a new motorcycle. I would probably give my money to a charity that helps sick children. Also, if any of my friends needed anything, I would help them pay for it. Plus, if I had a lot of money, I would certainly save some of it in the bank. - Intensive Task: Individual work. T will introduce the second conditional--would/wouldn't with explanation to Ss about use ---unreal situations/unlikely to happen/nearly impossible/improbable. (0 - 1% chance). Examples: 1. Hypothetical condition & its possible result 2. for unreal possibility (or nearly) 3. for an advice Structure: If + I + past simple, I + would (I'd) + verb base form Note: The two clauses can be switched with comma removed. Ss will pair up and answer some questions about Form. Pronunciation: Linking and primary stress. Drill and repeat PROCEDURE If I had more time, I’d do more exercise Meaning: Hypothetical condition & its possible result CCQs: have I enough time to do exercise? is a hypothetical situation? is it possible for me now to do more exercise? If I won the lottery, I would buy a car. Meaning: for unreal possibility (or nearly) CCQs: Is it possible to win? Are we thinking about a particular condition in the future or in the past? If I were you, I wouldn’t take that job. CCQs: is it an advice/a suggestion or an order/an imposition? Form: If+subject+verb ____, subject+ would (’d) + verb _____ ? ? ? ? Work in pairs . Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with fluent practice of the second conditional in specific and diverse contexts
