Description

In this lesson, students review how to use the Present Simple Tense through a reading passage. First, they pre-learn vocabulary which they are going to use in following activities. Second, they read the passage, ask and answer questions with present simple tense regarding time. They make a timetable chart according to reading passage and finally they do a speaking activity using the vocabulary and the structure they have learned.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher starts a game to use vocabulary related to the topic of jobs.

Pre-Reading Activity (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text

Teacher shows students Babur Ali's picture. Asks questions to prepare them for the reading passage. "What is his job?" "Is he rich?" "Where is he from?" "Does he like his job?" Students look at questions in Exercise 1 in Student Book. Try to guess answers. ICQs: "Who are these questions about?" Babur Ali. "Do you know the answers?" No. "What are you going to do?" Vocabulary Study (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with the key vocabulary they are going to see in reading passage

Teacher pre-teaches the key vocabulary. Five words: village, free, outdoors/indoors, lucky, head teacher Teacher shows a picture for the word village. Elicits the answer. CCQs!!!!!! Pag 1

While-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more detailed study on the text

Teacher gives the second paragraph in three parts. Tells students to put them in order. ICQs!!! Group work to check answers.

Post-Reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Check answers in Exercise 1 in pairs. Time table chart

Post-Reading #2 (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with the opportutity to use their knowledge in a speaking activity

Teacher demonstrates an example for the students. "What time does he get up?" At 5 o'clock. "What does he do in the morning?" Helps his mother. pair work

Speaking Task (5-7 minutes) • To enable students develop their speaking skills

Teacher divides students into two groups; journalists and students. Monitoring and feedback.
