Procedure (40-49 minutes)
T shows slide 1 and ask: Have you ever sent a postcard? Have you ever received one? Ss answer to the class, T gives a minute to share thoughts. "If you think postcards are an old thing, look:" and shows slide 2 with a ranking of postcards sent in 2017, organized by countries. T asks: Is it something common in your country?
Teacher shows slide 3 and instructs Ss to read silently the postcard in one minute by saying "This is a postcard I sent last year" What is the reason I sent this postcard? Possible answer: to send a memory/say hi to a friend from my trip around Europe. CCQs (check appropriacy) Was it formal or informal? INFORMAL How do you know? It is for a friend Was it too informal? NO. It is happy and friendly. (2-3 minutes) (only if time allows) T shows slide 4 with the question "What do people send postcards for?" and gives Ss a few seconds to reflect and answer. T expects one or two answers. T may ask individually. T shows slide 5 with "Ten reasons why sending postcards is still cool" for closing the topic. T asks "Do you agree?" "Is it still cool?" T will add her reasons for writing postcards are #1 and #4. There is no right or wrong answer to this activity. The main intention is to set the context in which people usually send postcards and to encourage them to do it. (2 minutes)
Meaning: T instructs Ss to open a Gform "Parts of a postcard" and work in pairs on Breakout Rooms. "Work in pairs on breakout rooms to give a name to each part of the postcard. You have 3 minutes" Answers: 1-7/2-6/3-1/4-4/5-5/6-2/7-3 OCFB: T shares screen with results. (1-2 minutes) FORM: T shows slide 6 and elicit structure of simple past, present continuous, and future. (1-2 minutes) Simple past I worked, traveled, arrived.. (_ED ending) Irregular: was, went, did, broke, etc. Present continuous Subject+To be + _ing: I’m staying, you’re traveling, she’s sitting Future (Event in the future) Subject+Will+bare infinitive I will visit, She will take a plain T shows slide 7 and show some language to be used on postcards. T ask for any other phrases may be useful (1-2 minutes) Dear friends, Greetings from Rome! Three days ago/Now/Tomorrow I wish you were here Lots of love from
T instructs Ss to open a link to the lesson's slides presentation. Ss will pick one postcard template to work on and write her/his name on. T explains the activity: "you have two options to write this postcard: You can imagine you are on holidays or you can write a postcard talking about your life in quarantine" T shows the text squares to write in. ICQ: Are you writing on the postcard? YES Are you working alone? YES "You have 13 minutes. If you have any questions, write me a private message and I will help you" T monitors Ss work in silence. T mutes all students.
T shows slide 21. T instructs Ss to open one last link. A G Form with a checklist. "Now you will be the teacher! You will check your partner's postcard with the checklist you've just opened. You will be in breakout rooms to give and receive feedback' You have 5 minutes.
T shows slide 22. T instructs Ss to find the errors in this postcard and re-write it. Pair check through private chat. Answers: I'm having holidays and I'm enjoying the summer Yesterday I had my first Spanish lesson This/Next/In summer I will fly
