Description

In this lesson, the Ss invent classroom laws by using their ideas from the previous sessions. The ss working in PW and GW while speaking. Also, they will read and discuss an article.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a giving rules in the context of "it's illegal"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about "NO SMOKING" in the context of it's illegal.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The T brings some pictures about rules to the class to get the Ss interested with the topic. He asks: What's this sign? What is it about? Where do you find it?

Controlled Practice (8-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The T posts eight phrases out of the class and asks the Ss from each group to create sentences by using those phrases.. He asks the Ss about the sentences they have written. After that, he asks them: Are they for the teacher? Are they for the students Are they for the teacher and students? Then, he gives them colored papers, one color for each group. He asks them to write examples using" Mustn't, Must and Needn't" about the phrases they have been given. After they finish writing, the T divides the board into three and writes; The Teacher- The Students- The Teacher And Students. The Ss are asked to put their examples into the right category..

Free Practice (8-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The T divides the Ss into two groups and gives them roles ( School Manager & Restaurant Manager) and ask them to write what they "Mustn't, Must or Needn't" do according to the location) They are also asked to write the rules as signs. Later on they will come to the board and post their rules according to their field.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The T gives to the Ss an article about smoking. They are asked to read and work in pairs to discuss the questions given. The T will discuss the answers with them.
