Procedure (41-50 minutes)
There are things we normally do on a day to day basis, do you think people will still do these things in another 100 years time? Such as: Talk to friends on the telephone Have baths and showers Play computer games Listen to music Eat pizza Use the internet Students will go into breakout rooms to discuss this. I will then play an audio which has a group of people predicting these same questions and students will compare their answers in private chat. Then we cover OCFB. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CHcD24LDtC0GsVsGXK40QP9_YGpfVgZ0/view?usp=sharing
Meaning - I will provide students with a google slides link, they will work individually or in pairs (depending on the number of students as on one occasion I had three students and on another I had six). There are four words and four different definitions to choose from, students must match the correct word to the correct definition. We then proceed to full class feedback on this activity. Form - I would share my screen and present a google slides presentation to the class concerning the form of the four words we discussed the meaning of. They will be presented with the same four sentences and will have to match the sentence with the correct grammar rule. We would complete this as a class. Pronunciation - I would present to the class a google slides presentation concerning the form of the four words. I would practice repeating the words with students in order to improve their pronunciation of the words and then I would elicit from them how many syllables they think the words consist of and where do they think the main word stress lies. We would complete this together as a class.
Students are presented with a google forms link where they will find 8 multiple choice questions where they must select the correct option in order to fill in the blanks. Students will complete this individually and then share their answers with a partner by way of private chat. We will then conduct class feedback
I will send students to break out rooms and ask them to discuss how they think things will be in the future. What kind of technology do they think we will be using? What forms of transport will we be using? How will we communicate with one another? Will we be communicating the same way we communicate now or will their be a different method? I would give them examples and say: "We will probably still use mobile phones but I think there may be some new features that are different to now. I think we will definitely still use airplanes to travel to different countries but I think they may design an airplanes which can travel a lot faster. I don't think we will use our mobile phones as much, we will probably use video calls such as zoom more often."
I would share my screen and place on the whiteboard a number of sentences on the whiteboard and ask students to discuss in pairs by way of private chat if they think the sentence structure is correct or not and if it is correct, what is the correct way to form the sentence? These sentences will consist of correct sentences and incorrect sentences, the incorrect sentences will be common mistakes that students have made throughout the lesson.
