To provide students with practice of some collocations in the context of everyday conversation.

To practice reading, speaking and listening through text-based exercises relating to collocations.
Procedure (45-15 minutes)
T asks whether students have heard of collocations, to gauge pre-existing knowledge. T gives clue and ask them to guess (Jamboard). T offers brief examples of collocations (Jamboard). T asks students to discuss the question: "Why do we say DO homework, rather than WRITE or MAKE homework?" (2 mins).
Intensive task Breakout rooms. Pairs. (4 mins). T asks SS "Now click on the chatbox link. Read the conversation between Marta and Jean, and choose the correct collocation. CCQs. How many minutes do you have? 4. T conducts OCFB (4 mins) revealing answers on Google Jamboard.
Instruction: Work in pairs, break out rooms. "Use one of the 12 collocations in a sentence about what you can see in the photos." CCQs: How many sentences should you write? (4) Are you going to use the examples from the text? (Yes) T conducts OCFB after and writes students' sentences on Zoom whiteboard.
Instruction: We will now take 3 of the collocations and focus on their Meaning, Form and pronunciation. 1. "owning a smartphone," 2. "wearing make-up," and 3. "running a business" (Google Slides Presentation). CCQs: 1. Did you great grandfather own a smartphone? No. Do you own a smartphone? Yes. 2) Do you wear makeup, S? No. Does S wear makeup? Yes. 3) When you run your own business, does it belong to someone else? No. Does it belong to you? Yes.
Instruction: Look again at the collocations. You will be put into Breakout Rooms for 5 minutes for our Final Discussion of "What age do you think is appropriate for the activities 1-12? Do you agree?" (Jamboard 5-6, frame 2) T demonstrates with an example: "I was not allowed to wear makeup until I was 16 years old." T conducts OCFB.
T reviews 3 recurrent errors made in SS speech, as noted during the lesson.
