I'll get the students engaged by asking: Would you agree or disagree that living in the city is more exciting than living in the countryside? Why? (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1gYDFljzhN1IlTs1bKSetpoL1hYpY0wJ-S-IhiO5JfdU/edit?usp=sharing) (Breakout Rooms)
The students will listen to a recording (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nE0s-XBK-Fj5b594nq8RqQIRt99fCi5F/view) and for the following gist exercise they'll write down the number to which of the six interviewees (1-6) spoke about which theme (https://forms.gle/NcBvFZL35t7doD4o7). Compare answers in pairs before OCFB.
The students will write down the specific phrases the interviewees use (E.g. I think, My view is..., My opinion is... etc.) to express opinions whilst listening to the recording for a second time before being presented with the answers. I've got five marker sentences which I'll show at the start then I'll read aloud the marker sentences and give the students to the chance to fill in the details on meaning, form and pronunciation. I'll do this via eliciting. (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1EreNkDT1ksodKe8uuveGpq6FO7r_XIhrO8eo8pFa5-k/edit#slide=id.p) Afterwards I'll give them the answers and reenforce the form, pronunciation and intonation.
The students will have to connect the root (Semi-Fixed Phrase) (Vertical Column) with the Pattern (Vertical Column). They'll do this individually, before checking in pairs and OCFB. (https://forms.gle/wrdVdyhgtPHDjm5t7)
The students are going to debate whether big monopolies should be broken up? Yes or no? Why? (Breakout Rooms) (https://jamboard.google.com/d/1QIPfBiHkmVKqB2Him2rnLKHAVrq30D7lpOds36947K8/edit?usp=sharing)
