To provide clarification of language used for dos and don'ts in the context of traveling on a low budget
Procedure (28-40 minutes)
Here there will be a general discussion about the topic. Students will talk about their experiences traveling on a low budget and share their comments with the class.
Here students will work on a task for brainstorming, where they have to come up with ideas based on dos and dont's for tor traveling on a low budget. They will have 2 min to do this in pairs before OCFB. Then, students will do a reading for gist activity. They will have 2 min to red the text and decide which is the best title for it.
Students will classify the given exponents with its corresponding function (dos and don'ts). They will do this as a GD task to clarify meaning. They do this in pairs and are given 2 min before OCFB. ICQ's are asked to check understanding. Then, students will discover which is the fixed part in each of the exponents (e.g start by -ing). After that they will be asked to provide a similar example to prove they have understood the sentence structure (first example will be given as model). Finally, for pronunciation, T will elicit sentence stress and linking, then drill.
Students will be given a lists of topics to choose from, such as how to quit smoking, how to learn a foreign language, etc. They will get in pairs and have 2 min to agree on a topic for their speaking task. Once the topic is chosen, they will be given 6-8 minutes to discuss about tips for it (dos and dont's). They will have to use at least 4 dos and 4 don'ts. ICQs will be used to check understanding. Teacher will monitor in case students have questions or need assistance with the task. After that, they will change groups and tell them about their list of tips, and find out if the others can add any ideas to their list.
