Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The T will share the google slides screen and nominate S to read all 3 questions. The T will send the 3 questions in the group chat. The T will ask the Ss to answer all 3 questions through the public chat box. The T will read aloud the answers the Ss type as they are posting to the chat box.

Gist Task (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The T will share screen and give a demo. The T will share the link to the Google forms The Ss will read the text and select the best title. This will be done individually. The Ss will type into the public chat box the title they selected The T will ask a S to say which title they chose and why.

Intensive Reading Task (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The T will share the screen with the Ss and give a demo. The T will share the link through the chat box. The Ss will work individually on their respective google slides. The Ss compare answers in groups of 2 using the private chat box. The T elicits from the students the correct answers in OCFB

Clarification (11-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The T will share the screen (slide 1) with the Ss. The T nominates a S to read the sample sentence and the meaning. The T asks the Ss to answer the CCQs in the chat box: Do we know which study? No. Has the study been mentioned before? No. Do we use an indefinite article before the noun phrase? Yes. The T asks S why we use "a" instead of "an" in the first sentence. The T asks S why we use "an" instead of "a" in the second sentence. The T reads sentence 1, and asks the Ss if the article "a" is stressed or not. The T reads sentence 2, and asks the Ss if the article "an" is stressed or not. The T reads sentence 1, and asks the Ss if they hear linking between "for" and "a". The T reads sentence 2, and asks the Ss if they hear linking between "He's" and "an". The T will share the screen (slide 2) with the Ss. The T nominates a S to read the sample sentence and the meaning. The T asks the Ss to answer the CCQs in the chat box: Is gum an uncountable noun? Yes. Is memory and uncountable noun? Yes? Do gum and memory take an article? No. The T nominates a S to read the exception to the rule. Then T reads the sentence marked 3. , and then asks the students to type in the chat box their answer to the CCQ: Do we know the purpose of the gathering? Yes. Do we use an article before the Noun Phrase? No . The T will share the screen (slide 3) with the Ss. The T nominates a S to read the sample sentence and the meaning. The T asks the Ss to answer the CCQs in the chat box: Do we know which study? Yes. Has the study been mentioned before? Yes. Is the study defined by the phrase which follows it? Yes. Do we use a definite article before the noun phrase? Yes. The T reads sentence 5 and 6. The T asks the Ss: What is the difference in pronunciation between the definite article 'the' in sentence and 5 and 6. The Ss answer in public chat box. The T elicits why there is a difference in pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The T screen shares and gives the Ss a demo. The T shares the link in the chat box. The Ss work individually. The Ss work in pairs through private chat. Then we have OCFB.

Free Practice (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language. Fluency.

The T screen shares a google slide with 3 questions. The T asks the S to take a screen shot of the questions. The T asks the students to do their best to use articles while they are communicating. The T creates breakout rooms. The Ss work in groups of 3 to answer the 3 questions. The T monitors Free Practice. Finally, we have OCFB.
