Description

in this lesson, students learn about Time Twins and what it means through reading two texts about two girls. the lesson starts with learning new vocabulary related to the topic. then a jigsaw reading where students read and relate between the two girls they read about. through reading the students are going to look for specific information and underline certain words. at the end, the students are going to write a paragraph or draw a picture to express their ideas or what they understood about Time Twins.

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about Time Twins in the context of interests

Procedure

lead in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. T. shows students images and they try to guess the suitable word. then the students give examples using the words in sentences.

prediction (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T asks students to look at the pictures and read the title. then the students try to guess what the topic of the text is about. students try to define the meaning of Time Twins.

Skim reading (2-3 minutes) • to get a general understanding of the text

students read the text and then answer the question about what is the general topic of the text.

scan reading (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1.T. asks students to read the text and underline the names and dates in the text. 2. students work together in groups and read the text and discuss their answers together. 3. T. listens and checks their answers.

reading for details (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1. students read the text and answer in groups a True/False question of three points. 2. the students answer a multiple choice question of three points. 3. the students share their answers with the teacher.

Follow up (4-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. T. asks students to write a paragraph or draw a picture to express what they know about Time Twins. 2. the students share what they drew or wrote with each other.
