Procedure (24-37 minutes)
I will start the lesson by asking after the students. After having the possible responses, I will ask the students: "What day is today?" "Which month are we in"? "The year we are in is .....?" So that the students will start to think and talk about time expressions. Then, I will ask them "What about yesterday? I will elicit the answer "Wednesday" and repeat :"It was Wednesday.". Then I will ask the last month and say :"Last month was May." They are all in the past. For example,"now it is afternoon" and "morning" is in the past."5 minutes ago" , it is in the past. Next, I will show a picture of my family member and elicit some answers from the students. The photo is from 1970s.I will try to get the word "old, past". Before the next step, I will ask the students to go to their favorite room at home and come back in 1min.
In this stage , I will ask the students to describe and compare two photos that I show them. Here, I will make them to use "am/is/are" and repeat or complete their sentences by using "was/were". So that, they will be engaged to the lesson.
I will use a PPT and try to explain the students how to use and form "verb to be" in past simple tense. I will make them notice the differences between "am-is-are" and "was-were". In this stage, the students will be watching the ppt and I will be explaining the target language. After that, the students will be asked to transform the present simple sentences into past simple tense. This is a matching activity that I prepared online.
In this stage, the students will be asked to play 2 different online games prepared by the teacher. In the first one which is called "Random Wheel", they will tap the button;spin the wheel and complete the blank that they come across. The second game is called "Open the Box". In this game the students are supposed to make correction of the sentences that they found in the box.
In this stage , I will ask the students to remember the beginning of the lesson when I sent them to their favorite rooms. Then, I will ask them to get a piece of paper and write a sentence ("using was/were" ) about the place they went. They are supposed to write a sentence like this:"I was in my room.," I was in the living room.,etc..
