In this lesson students will briefly discuss varieties of English, listen to an audio that sets the context for Future forms, and compare the meanings of "will, be going to, and present continuous".

Main Aims

To provide clarification and practice of Future forms in the context of two friends' conversation over the phone

To provide review on British and American uses of English
Procedure (33-46 minutes)
Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students
Ask students what they know about varieties of English both in terms of accents and vocabulary. Show pictures of certain words used differently in Britain and America. Ask students which one they prefer.
Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a situation
Make students listen to the audio and complete the sentences with future time expressions.
Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language
Draw students' attention to the target language. Elicit different forms and meanings of Future.
Controlled Practice (12-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students to free practice
In pairs in breakout rooms, get Ss do exercise 4 and check as a class. Then play the online game.
Free Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
Ask students to talk about their short and long-term plans in pairs.
