Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of The future perfect and the future continuous in the context of Meeting up

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information and intensive listening practice using a text about Travel arrangements and plans in the context of Job Trip

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In a discussion about the last lesson's main theme (Work), T tries to link from the previous lesson and to use the different aspects of the future tense. T shows the students pictures of "Life Stages" and get the whole class running to the boards to match them with the appropriate/logical future date.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through listening for specific informations activity

T gives handouts and asks the students to do ex 2.a where Ss will have listen for specific informations to the conversation in order to answer individually the questions. T monitors the task. Ss check in pair their answers. T gives feedback.

Highlighting (7-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T asks students to do individually exercise (2/b),where students will correct the wrong words in each sentence through an intensive listening. Ss check and discuss in pairs their answers to observe TL, then T gives feedback. T will use the question in the HOs (exercise 3a) to elicit/state the different forms of the future tense.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the two new aspects of the future tense.

T uses the sentences from exercise (2/b) as example to set the pattern of future perfect/ future continuous. T gives a personalized example to clarify the use and meaning of both aspects. Modeling, drilling and back-chaining will be used for the statement of the pronunciation part.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T asks students to give further examples to check the global understanding. T gives HOs and get students working out individually the gap-filling task. T monitors the activity Ss check in pairs their answers. T checks the answers, demands for justification to double check the concept then, gives feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T sets a freer activity where students will be asked to write sentence, using the grammatical rule to anticipate what they'll be doing during a round-the-world trip In groups, the students share their ideas sorting out the trip-plan. T monitors the activity and takes notes. Each group selects a "presenter" to talk about the trip. T gives feedback and mentions and corrects any (common/previous) errors if occurred.
