Procedure (28-44 minutes)
T intro and quick review of the previous lesson - What I like about...is....; One thing I admire about....is.... To set context T tells a short story using the TL. T brings students attention to some of the collocations used in the story and asks if any Ss know what i could be meaning - lead-in to first test activity.
T gives Ss instructions for the first activity being sure to highlight that Ss are not expected to know all of the TL. Ensure understanding through thorough CCQ's - Should you know all of the language? No. - Are you working individually or in pairs? Individually Ss work individually to match the words/phrases with their definitions. T monitors Ss looking for weaknesses and problems during the task. Ss check in pairs before whole class feedback.
After whole class feedback, the T focuses on the TL. T works through the TL, modelling, highlighting, and drilling the TL - focusing on stresses and pronunciation, and writing these on the WB after drilling the TL.
T then gives instructions for second test, referring Ss to the workbook handout. (Vocabulary. P86. Q1). Ensuring to ask ICQ's and monitor Ss progress during the task, taking note of any continued problems. Ss complete the the activity, choosing the correct verb to complete the phrase. Ss may check in pairs before WC feedback.
Ss are then asked to work in pairs, using the previous sentences they have just completed (vocabulary. P86. Q1). Ss take turns to ask each other the questions. Ss may swap pairs if time permits. T monitors Ss and takes note of any mistakes - waiting until the end of the exercise to write them on the board and highlight any grammatical or pronunciation mistakes with Ss for final feedback.
