TP2
Pre-intermediate A2/B1 level
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide Ss with clarification, review and practice of simple past in the context of memories of school
Subsidiary Aims
-
To allow Ss to use simple past to talk about their school memories.
Procedure (32-42 minutes)
T will start the lesson by asking the Ss "Did you do something interesting yesterday?' or 'What did you do yesterday' by asking them to throw an invisible ball to each other and ask each other the same question. Ss' answers will vary and then T will ask some students to report back what others did yesterday. T will write some of Ss' answers on the 'virtual board' to refer to them in the teaching stage.
Ask Ss to complete a 'cloze test' exercise to complete a story about 'school memories', Ask Ss to do it individually and then check with their peers. Allow them to justify their answers and their peers'. 'agreeing/disagreeing'. Give Ss feedback.
Ask Ss to read the story again and figure out the meaning and form of past simple tense. Ss will read the story again and then do the exercise in pairs. T will assign a member from each pair to report back to the whole class. T will ask other members if they agree/disagree and to justify their answers. Ss will listen to the T's feedback.
Ask Ss to do a gap-fill exercise individually and then check with their peers. Allow Ss to discuss their answers and ask them to help each other if necessary. Ask Ss to share their answers. If Ss make a mistake, allow self-correction or peer-correction. Do hot correction if Ss still struggle. Give whole class feedback.
Ss in this stage will be asked to apply what they've just learned about the past simple tense in a kind of semi-free practice. They will interview each other to talk about school memories. T will monitor discretely. Cold correction will be done and shared with Ss at the end of the activity. T will write some sentences on the board and allow Ss to guess if they need any corrections.
