in this lesson students will practice speaking by talking about shopping in london and learn new shopping vocabulary.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a role play in the context of shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of shopping words in the context of shopping in london

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

the teacher will start the session by showing students pictures about shopping in london to guess the topic and the teacher will ask students some question do you enjoy shopping?how often do you go shopping?what's your favourite place to shop?why?what was the last thing you bought for yourself ?where did you buy it?the the teacher will ask students to work in pairs to answer those questions .

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

the teacher will start to elicit the new words "bargain-expensive-sale-window shopping"and give students the hand out to read the vocabulary in a context and work in pairs to answer the true or false questions in groups to check understanding of the new words .

Semi-Controlled speaking Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

the teacher will distribute the class into two groups shoppers and and shopkeepers each group consist of 5 students group A the shoppers every student will have shopping list and group B the shopkeepers each one will be responsible of different shop the first one the computer shop the second one the newsagent ,each student will present his shop then the shoppers each one will go to the shop and start to buy everything in the shopping list the teacher will monitor the students if there is any problem if the need help during the shopping role play and the teacher is taking notes about the mistakes to give the feedback at the end .

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

the teacher will ask the students what is their dream shopping area and give them chance for free discussion .

feedback and error correction (5-8 minutes) • to provide feedback on students' production.

teacher will take all the notes and the mistakes that happened during the discussion and write some examples of students' mistakes on the board and elicit the mistakes ,then the teacher will discuss the mistakes and tell the students to discuss it in groups to make sure they are understand .
