Description

In this lesson Ss will learn the grammar of the past simple especially the irregular verbs though Text-based presentation. I will start the lesson by asking them a question to generate their interest in the text. Then Ls will read the text to be comfortable with it. I will highlight the target language through some exercises. I will clarify the language. The lesson will end by controlled and free practice.

Main Aims

To practice the grammar of the past simple "irregular verbs" in the context of girl's night out through text- based presentation

Subsidiary Aims

To provide practice speaking through the same context

Procedure (34-46 minutes)

Warmer/lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context,generate interest and engage students

I will stick three pictures on the board and ask them Can you describe these pictures and then I will ask them Do women go out in your country ? Where do they go?

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To ensure that Ls are comfortable with the text before exploiting it for language.

Ss will read the text and then I will ask them Where do you think the women are?

Highlighting Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight the target language in the context

Ls will answer two exercises. The first exercise is to order some questions according to the text. The second one is to complete a chart by Yes or No. I will elicit the instructions for each question. After answering each exercise, they will check it in pairs then I will give them the feedback by stick it on the wall and each group will stand up to check their answers.

Language Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

I will write on the board + " Sharon wore a long dress." Then I will analyze where is the subject and verb. I will ask them some CCQs to check the meaning : 1- Did Sharon wear a long dress in the past? 2- Is she wearing a long dress now? 3- Did the action happened and finished or not? I will explain the negative form: " Sharon didn't wear a long dress." I will explain Yes or No question: "Did Sharon wear a long dress?" Yes, she did or No, she didn't. I will ask to practice Yes or NO Q by exercise (2d) I will explain Wh Q: " What did Sharon wear?" At the end I will drill the pronunciation backward : " Did you drink coffe yesterday?" " where did you go yesterday?" "Did he meet his friend last Friday?"

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language; controlled and free practice

Before the practice, I will give Ss a handout of some irregular verbs and its infinitive to help them them answering the exercise. Ls will answer two exercise. The first one is to put the verbs in the past simple and the second one is to complete some questions. after each exercise, Ss will check it in pairs then I will give them the feedback. I will ask Ss to ask each other some questions on exercise b as a speaking practice and then I will give them the feedback.
